About DHAOA

The Development of Handicraft and Agriculture Organization of Afghanistan (DHAOA) is a women-led, non-governmental, non-political, non-profit, and independent organization founded in 2014 by a group of community development and research specialists. DHAOA's mission is to contribute to the sustainable development of Afghanistan, aligning with the broader goals of the international community. The organization aims to achieve this by building local capacities, generating evidence across various disciplines, promoting best practices, and implementing grassroots developmental projects.

Our Services

DHAOA provides comprehensive services including the planning and implementation of humanitarian and development projects, conducting feasibility studies, and managing community-based interventions aimed at the holistic development of target communities. Our approach is multi-sectoral, spanning handicrafts, education, and agriculture, with a strong emphasis on women's empowerment as a central aspect of community development.

Our Expertise

DHAOA is recognized for its expertise in managing large-scale projects and sourcing high-quality development experts across various disciplines essential for successful project implementation. Our core principles include establishing meaningful partnerships, ensuring diversity, and empowering communities, with a special focus on women's inclusion. These principles enable DHAOA to deliver and manage projects that create significant impact in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

Our Impact

From 2015 to 2021, DHAOA has successfully implemented 11 projects across Afghanistan, building the capacity of 12,898 women and girls, as well as 3,293 men and youth. Our beneficiaries include government officials, civil society members, educators, farmers, and community members. Additionally, DHAOA has provided employment opportunities for 4,208 women, girls, and men, making it a significant contributor to local development.

Partnerships and Recent Projects

DHAOA has established partnerships with various organizations, including a successful collaboration with UN Women on an 8-month capacity-building project with a grant of $150,000. More recently, DHAOA secured a $450,000 grant for a vocational training program supporting 50 widowed women, as well as women who are the primary breadwinners in families where the husbands are incapacitated. This program offers internships in restaurant management and tailoring, aiming to empower these women economically and socially.

STRATEGIC GOALS

  1. Contribute in rehabilitation, advancement and development efforts through generating evidence and promoting evidence-based best practices, and implementing community development projects
  2. Promote decentralization through promoting local level Civil Society Governance, building local capacities,  at local, national and international so that developmental projects aimed at community development are implemented smoothly at the grass root level
  3. Create job opportunities for Afghans especially women and newly graduates and assist them to enter into job markets and as a result obliquely contribute in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan
  4. To establish networking at national and international level through identifying and cooperating with sister organizations having similar mission, vision and strategic objectives at global level.
